Who can use the library ?
All staff of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and students on placement within the Trust can register to use the library.
An external membership scheme is available to health or social care staff who do not have an existing service level or reciprocal agreement for the provision of library services (qualified GPs, CCG staff, hospice staff). Please contact the library for details.
How do I find the books I need?
Use the library catalogue:
If the book is available, note down the location and class number (where you will find the book on the shelves)
If the book is on loan you can reserve it (you need your reader barcode and your PIN (year of birth)
If the book is not on the catalogue you can request a copy as an Inter Library Loan
How can I renew my books?
You will not be able to renew your books online if you have a fine of £5.00 or more or you have reached the maximum number of unseen renewals (3).
What if I bring my books back late?
Late return of books will incur fines:
Standard Loan – 10p per day
Short Loan – 50p per day
The maximum fine is set at £5.00 per item.
We can accept cash, card or cheque payment.
If your books become very overdue (over 60 working days) you will be sent an invoice for replacement costs.
I can't return my book in person. Can I post it back?
If you are unable to return a book in person they may be returned in the Trust internal mail system or in the post. If posting we recommend that you obtain a proof of posting receipt. Please allow postage time if you are going to post your items back you as fines will incur for late returns.
How do I use the library printing and scanning facilities?
Printing services are available on all public PC’s. Charges apply and you must have sufficient credit in your printing account to be able to print. You can buy print credit from the library staff at the counter (cash, cheque and card payment accepted).
Scanners are available on several public PC’s and scanning is free.

What online resources does the library provide access to?
A wide range of online resources are available to you. These include ejournals, databases (e.g. Medline, Cinahl), point-of-care tool (UpToDate), an online 3D human anatomy education resource (AnatomyTV), and Oxford Medicine.
In order to access online resources you will need an NHS OpenAthens account.
How do I find an article?
